A week after being struck by a hit and run driver, 28-year-old Willie Christian, of Moultrie, is still fighting for his life. The driver who struck Mr. Moultrie is now facing police charges and may be held civilly liable by the family of Mr. Christian.
Willie Christian, a Moultrie resident, was walking down Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Tuesday evening when the driver of a 2004 PT Cruiser struck him, leaving him lying injured in the roadway. Mr. Christian was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and, according to police, remains in a medically induced coma.
Following a man hunt for the hit and run driver, police have now charged 32-year-old Issac Lee Powell, Jr., of Norman Park, with leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license.
The accident occurred amid a recent surge of Georgia pedestrian fatalities and has left many residents calling for tougher enforcement of traffic safety in their community. Now, as Mr. Christian fights for his life, his family may be fighting for justice on his behalf.
Attorneys at The Murray Law Firm are investigating why Mr. Powell fled the scene and what factors, such as speed, impairment, or distraction, may have lead to the accident. Given the driver's apparent criminal fault in this incident, Mr. Christian and his family may elect to hold the driver civilly liable for his injuries. Total financial recovery could be substantial, but more importantly, such a claim would surely speak to other Georgia drivers and local law enforcement on the need to provide safer streets for our pedestrians. It is crucial that Mr. Christian and his family contact an experienced law firm as soon as practicable to protect the family's best interests and to secure all evidence relating to this accident. The Murray Law Firm has extensive experience in protecting families of hit and run cases, such as this. We pray for the swift recovery of Mr. Christian and offer our legal expertise to him and his family, if needed.
