89-year-old Patricia McKenny, of Forsyth, is in critical condition following a Saturday evening accident, which left her injured and claimed the life of her dog.
According to initial reports, a Monroe County driver ran a stop light Saturday evening, January 25, 2014, crashing into Patricia McKenny who was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Ms. McKenny's dog, Tucker, died in her lap at the scene.
The driver who struck Ms. McKenny reportedly refused to take a blood alcohol test following the accident, raising serious concerns about her condition at the time of the accident.
Why did the driver fail to notice the stop light? Was she driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications at the time she struck Ms. McKenny?
Attorneys at The Murray Law Firm work tirelessly to protect victims of impaired drivers and remind Georgia drivers that state Implied Consent laws require all licensed drivers operating vehicles within the state to submit to a breath, blood or urine test, should a police officer believe they may be driving under the influence of alcohol. Refusal to submit to these laws may incur additional charges and severe penalties.
Should the driver in this accident be found at fault for impaired driving, Patricia McKenny and her family may elect to hold that driver civilly liable for her injuries. Such a claim may be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and will, most importantly, serve as a much-needed reminder to all Georgia drivers on the perils of drunk driving. Further, these claims will call on Monroe County authorities to crack down on the enforcement of drunk driving and implied consent laws, hopefully saving many other lives.
