Three people were injured during a 4-vehicle accident on Mike Padgett Highway Friday, December 20, 2013.
According to Burke County authorities, the accident occurred along Mike Padgett Highway/Highway 56 when a northbound driver veered off the roadway into a ditch. Another northbound driver attempted to swerve to miss the initial wreck and crashed into a southbound tractor trailer. A second 18-wheeler hit then hit that car from behind.
Three people were rushed to the Medical College of Georgia. Their names and conditions have not yet been released.
Investigators at The Murray Law Firm are now questioning what caused the initial car to veer off the roadway and whether impairment, distraction or fatigue were factors.
Should that driver be found at fault for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications, or for distracted driving, he or she may be held civilly liable for all injuries suffered as a consequence. Further claims may also be filed according to workers' compensation laws, should any of the drivers have been working at the time of the accident.
As multiple vehicles and victims are involved, it is imperative all victims retain an experienced personal injury attorney without delay to handle these complex claims and to protect their best interests. All too often, insurance companies are more concerned with limiting their own financial exposure than providing victims and their families what they rightfully deserve. As such, having an experienced firm to manage these negotiations can mean the difference of hundreds of thousands of dollars and, most importantly, the best medical care.
